SOUTH WIMBLEDON

A calming, harmonious space

Location: London, UK

Project type: Private Garden

Client: Private Client

Our client asked us to create a contemporary design for both the front and rear gardens of their home.

The existing rear garden was tired and overgrown, and different levels made it hard to use. We began by levelling the new patio with the house to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow that extends the home’s living space. The new patio features an outdoor fireplace and cozy furniture, offering an ideal spot for socializing with friends. Evergreen shrubs in tall planters on the patio add softness and visual interest, while pleached trees provide privacy along the boundaries. Beneath the trees, a yew hedge adds a year-round green backdrop, contrasting with herbaceous plants that bring depth, texture and seasonal colour to the garden.

At the far end of the garden, a multi-stem Amelanchier provides a focal point with blossom in spring and rich autumn colour, while elegantly screening the neighbour’s window and enhancing the client’s privacy.

The front drive and garden have been transformed into a welcoming green space. Sustainable materials, including clay pavers for a curving pathway, reclaimed railway sleepers and a permeable gravel surface, sit easily among drifts of grasses and drought-tolerant perennials. The overall look is soft, naturalistic and very stylish.
