People’s Choice Best Show Garden Award at RHS Hampton Court for the Second Year in a Row
The Three Graces of Galicia
We are thrilled to share that our show garden, The Graces of Galicia, has been awarded a Silver Medal and the People’s Choice Best Show Garden at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2025, for the second year in a row.
The purpose of the garden was to celebrate the power of literature, identity, and resilience through the legacy of three iconic 19th-century Spanish women writers — Rosalía de Castro, Emilia Pardo Bazán, and Concepción Arenal.
The Three Graces draws inspiration from the romantic gardens of Galicia, weaving themes of poetry, progress, and social justice into a timeless, tranquil space. Winding gravel paths, a serene lily pond, topiary structures, and evocative artworks create a sensory journey that honours the writers’ enduring impact on culture and society.
Nilufer says: “I wanted to create a space that celebrates strength, resilience, and the transformative power of ideas. This garden is a tribute to Galicia’s rich literary and natural heritage — and an invitation for reflection on identity, justice, and the role of women in shaping the world.”
Key highlights include a vintage pavilion entwined with scented climbers, reclaimed gates and stone that echo 19th-century craftsmanship. The planting scheme features heritage Camellias, Hydrangeas, and Roses in soft, romantic hues, complemented by pollinator-friendly and drought-resistant perennials. Inspirational quotes from each woman are inscribed on reclaimed natural stone plinths, creating poignant moments for visitors to pause and reflect.
In line with the festival’s growing focus on sustainability, The Three Graces of Galicia champions environmental responsibility through eco-conscious design — using reclaimed materials, local sourcing, and permeable surfaces for natural water management. A lily pond, mature trees, and diverse planting provide vital habitats for wildlife, attracting amphibians such as frogs and newts, insects like dragonflies, and a range of bird species.
The Three Graces of Galicia offers visitors a moving, multisensory experience where beauty meets purpose — celebrating Spanish heritage, feminine empowerment, and the power of gardens to inspire real change.
The garden has attracted widespread media coverage, including an interview with Nilufer on BBC London, as well as features in The English Garden, Pro Landscaper, and several blogs and YouTube channels. Visitors to the garden on press day included Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh and Linford Christie, once the fastest man in the world.
Following the show, the garden will be relocated to support Getaway Girls, a Leeds-based charity empowering vulnerable young women, ensuring a lasting legacy of inspiration and growth.
At last year’s RHS Hampton, Nilufer’s ‘The Way of St James’ similarly celebrated the culture and nature of Galicia and its most famous event, the centuries old Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. Thousands voted it their favourite garden at the show earning Nilufer the People’s Choice Best Show Garden award.
